eXistenZ.
I know this movie is about ten years old so it's just a little behind the times, huh? But I really wanted to see this movie for quite some time (that's what I said about Pathology though, huh?) and LOVEFiLM was letting me watch eXistenZ on their site and it was pretty damn good quality (for streaming) so how could I say no? Enjoy! (it's another positive review).
Now this movie turned out to be a really great experience, albeit a complete and total mindfuck.
A mindfuck you say? It's about a games designer, who plays her own game, who then confuses the reality of the game, who then we find out was actually playing a game about a game designer playing a game but then in the end it wasn't even reality and still part of the game..? Yeah haha, insane huh? I wonder if another couple of watches will help me understand this...
But it was still a lot of fun, no doubt about it. The confusion keeps you interested (although it could possibly frustrate), the bizarre performances will make you laugh out of awkwardness, I guess they were trying to come across as two dimensional game characters, the little details to remind you you're in a game like saying the correct lines or predetermined events out of your control, the whole look of the movie. Hell there was a damn lot to like about this movie, I could go on about all the little details that make this movie great but I guess in a sense that's a problem too. The whole isn't as good as the sum of it's parts.
But should you watch it? Well...if you have at least two braincells, give it a go. I'm certainly not stupid and this movie confused the shit out of me but I still had fun. But someone of a lower intelligence standpoint will probably just find this movie frustrating.
Oh by the way, first review on my new MacBook!
Merry Christmas everyone!
Locke.
