Not For Want Of Trying.

Okay folks, something a little different this week, I'm reviewing a CD, a CD I'm listening too at the time of writing (but already played through tons of time before) this is experimental and water testing for me. I've never actually reviewed music before in my whole life and feel right now like I'm stumbling around in the dark. I don't really know how to approach this and I've read little music journalism in my life, so well bare with me, if it sucks dicks, lemme know and I won't put myself through this again. Because right now all I'm gonna feel is like I missed the point and wrote something really stupid.

So I'm pretty sure you've never heard of this band or this album but hey, who gives a fuck? They're from my home town. And this CD features a series of epic rock instrumentals. Occasionally there are some outside vocals (which are fucking awesome) and another song uses sound clips from 'Network' brilliantly.

I guess the biggest problem is the biggest strength. It's an instrumental CD. You know how hard it seems to be to get instrumental music that's awesome? I can find a shit load of classical violin pieces which sound like the guy was having a stroke as he played but to find something like a movie score without buying an original sound track is hard as hell.

The instrumentals sound like a hard rock version of a movie score so this album is exactly what I'm looking for. But (there is always a but) unless you're concentrating on the music hard the songs have a tendency to fade away in the background or blend together, more so than any other CD I've listened too. Then when 'Heartflusters' suddenly comes you go "What the fuck?" because it just doesn't fit with the rest of the CD since it has full vocals. But then as the song 'He Films Clouds Pt. 2' reaches it's climax you suddenly realise how fucking amazing this CD is and give it another listen. On your second listen you'll find the instrumentals have more character, you'll find the vocal version a really nice addition to the album and so forth, it's a grower.

So should you check this CD out? If you don't like instrumentals or rock then no. Plus the quality isn't great (I mean as far as CD quality goes. To MP3 standards then yeah it's fucking amazing) since they performed, recorded, mixed and mastered it themselves but aside from that I really can't give a reason as to not check out this CD. Just give it at least three plays through before you decide to toss it aside and call it boring, 'kay?

God I really am on a roll! Another positive review.

Think about it!

You've persuaded me to listen to it, but you should try giving multiple reviews of the same nature.

I thought you did an Ok job-the thing with music reviews is, I often find that a lot of how you feel about the music depends on if you like that genre.

I like instrumental music, and from what I've heard of this band, I like it. Again, I think I mentioned it before, but it reminds me of both The Postal Service and Straylight Run. Straylight Run happens to be one of my favorite bands, so...I guess I will do what I can to get this in the states?
