Both Arrow and Supernatural this week were just...okay, nothing spectacular but thankfully they didn't cause me physical pain either. Will Beauty and The Beast be just okay too? Will it be a spectacular finish to the midweek TV clusterfuck? Or will this be the one to cause me physical pain? Let's find out...
This weeks episode was actually really really good however if I had to pick a singular word to describe it, the first word that springs to mind is frustrating. Vincent finally starts coming out of his shell and reaches out to Catherine, only Catherine is nabbed by Meerfield and turned against Vincent. Why won't you let me the romance happen! In Arrow all I want is the action and I get loads of character development, in this all I want is romance and I get loads of action, damnit! Either way, this does make Vincent to go straight for them - so awesome.
Once again this week they struggle to tie Meerfield, Vincent and a case of the week together. Although Vincent stumbles across the case, that is basically where the cases story relevance ends and they only really manage to keep it relevant thematically for the rest of the episode. And honestly as things started to get more and more interesting as the episode went along, I found myself actively sighing when it went back to the case. I mean we've all heard of filler episodes, but filler scenes, what the fuck is that about?
I felt so sorry for Vincent this episode, the scene where he realises Catherine is scared of him...I think I might have a bit of a crush. He was admittedly a little dramatic about it all, but I can understand. She already knows Vincent is a monster and he finally did what she asked him to do every week prior and then she just turns round and is like 'I'm scared of you now, go away', fucks sake! That being said am I not the only one who felt this a little early? I mean shouldn't they have given Vincent and Catherine time to be mushy before she starts getting all scared of him? Oh well, they are exactly where they started at the start of the episode by the end of it anyway.
Talking of it all being a little too soon Vincent has directly fought Meerfield and killed off the guy who I thought was going to be the main villain by the end of this episode, I'm not complaining about getting on with it but what are they going to do with the rest of the season, are they cruising for a cancellation? I mean if Arrow gets a full season pick up and this doesn't, then I am sure CW is ran by monkeys.
I hate how CGI takes over everything, not only is Jay Ryan not doing his own stunts, there isn't a double either, just a computer doing it for him. Same with Catherine's dramatic home run this episode. How long until CGI cartoons have entirely replaced movies? Why do you think I spend so much time with films before 1995? Sure it may not look better, but at least it is all there, making a CGI monster is not the same as building a suit, with animatronics, what the hell happened to craftsmanship? I wouldn't be too surprised these days if this whole show is just two people in front of a green screen. And for that matter, who makes these special effects, leans back and thinks 'a job well done', for all the times I've laughed when you can see a stunt double clearly, it still looks a thousand times better than animated stunts in a live action show.
Today on girl power the show, the girls have to play softball because...they need women apparently? And then they make an insult about nail salons? I don't know. Either way, what I learned from this show, is girls cannot play sports, at least not as well as British guys, who suck at American sports because they aren't American.
As mentioned earlier, once again Beauty and The Beast is more action packed than Arrow. The big dramatic action conclusion was awesome. Having a monster with superpowers is always a great way to keep your show exciting.
Really the biggest problem both with Basic Instinct and the show in general are the cases of the week. I understand why Catherine needs to be a cop, if she wasn't this show would be hell of a lot harder to do and I get that but we don't need to see the cases. And if you want to have a case of the week so badly, at least write it into the story. The case of the week, this week, had thematic importance at most but was practically filler scenes to pad out the episode and cut down on the amount of stuff that is actually important. That aside, this was a great episode.
Pros;
- This show is surprisingly action heavy and the action is pretty good too.
- Vincent, aw!
- They get the fuck on with it, at least.
- Overall just an all round enjoyable episode.
Cons;
- Goddamn it you two, kiss already! As good as the action is, I didn't expect there to be more of it than the romance.
- Once again the case of the week has no reason to be there and they barely even try and make it relevant.
- Catherine is a bit of a bitch, really, isn't she?
- Has this show got a train to catch or something?
- Fucking CGI.
- Stop with the girl power crap, Jesus.
Think About It!
