Last week was my Megaforce low point which means this episode really doesn't have to do a lot to impress me but still, please don't suck as much as last week...
So this weeks episode is largely about... eeeh. It's a Troy focused episode...sort of but it's also a sort of message about not giving into ones anger and and also sort of about bullies. Really it's about the Rangers killing off Creepox good and proper but for some reason Megaforce also chose to throw in some random scenes around the battle that don't really have much to do with anything else aside from some vague thematic connections. Luckily the battle more than makes up for it.
Hey you remember how Troy is the new kid in town? Well the show just did! And let's be honest, Troy got to be pretty badass this week. They even have a reason for why Troy acts so woodenly all the time, it's because he has some serious calm control levels. I'm just kidding, Gray sucks. They even give him a line they are so proud of, they don't make him say it just once, not twice but three times.
Thankfully the rest of the cast once again pick up some slack. Although I think both Masterson and Loudermilk aren't particularly great actors they at least have some semblance of emotion that makes them better than Gray, at least. Once again however the standouts are Hanna and Rizk, I don't know why Rizk doesn't get more screen time because he is by far the best actor when you stack him against everyone else. Gia and Jake get some extremely corny lines this week but Hanna and Rizk manage to deliver their lines with a surprising amount of conviction and intensity.
Although we aren't even half way through the season yet, Creepox dies. However I don't mind this because the action this week is utterly stunning, emotionally dead for sure but stunning. Creepox decimates the Rangers and kills millions of people before Troy takes him down in a truly epic showdown. This has to be one of the coolest villain exits in Power Rangers ever which in turn leads to probably my most favourite Zord battle ever. However outside of the incredible action from the Goseiger footage, pretty much everything Megaforce adds utterly sucks...
Firstly the integration of the footage is absolutely awful. At one moment the Rangers are fighting Creepox in what appears to be a park, then apparently Creepox hits them so hard they all teleport to another location entirely. Seamless editing there, Saban.
Also come on, I know you can't show like gore or whatever else but simply telling us they are 'banged up pretty badly' and then showing a bit of dirt on Jake's chin and that is it is just stupid. It's funny too because one scene later and Creepox utterly decimates the city and although we don't see it, given that there was no warning before his attack I'm pretty sure millions died in that attack. Also despite this, everything just carries on as normal...
Then again it doesn't make a whole lot of sense in terms of narrative either. Creepox is stronger than ever before you say, Gia? How do you know that, exactly? And why is Creepox stronger exactly Megaforce? Where the hell did Noah's new power come from? Why did Emma not even help in the battle? Why does Troy get beaten so bad he demorphs but then his sword stays behind? How does he get beaten that badly and not even have a scuff? Why is Vrak in a different form again?
From all regards looking around the forums and what have you, if you've seen Goseiger all the way through this episode makes even less sense than I could make of it and I'm barely following this thing. The footage is so condensed, so oddly placed and delivered with such little explanation Megaforce is barely even holding together let alone cohesive. I loved the Creepox battle but everything around it was just plain awful and this iteration is going downhill, fast.
Pros;

Pros;
- Gray may not be able to live quite up to the character but Troy is pretty badass.
- Creepox.
- The action is incredible.
- Best villain send off ever?
- Rizk and Hanna are actually pretty great in this, especially Rizk.
Cons;
- What was the point of adding all the filler around the battle?
- Gray still sucks.
- Gray sucks so bad, I'm impressed by even just okay actors like Masterson and Loudermilk.
- So much corniness everywhere.
- They probably could have built this up a little better.
- Millions of people can die but they can't even scuff up the heroes as Creepox repeatedly kicks their ass?
- Awful integration of footage.
- Nothing in this really makes sense, it's a continuity nightmare. I know this is 'just a kids show' but it could at least make sense.
Think About It!
